Men’s Shelterbelt – April 11-16
Confidentiality: We want to remind everyone here to hold in confidence everything that is said here this evening, so that what is said here, stays here.
Purpose Statement: Our purpose in meeting together is to grow in our apprenticeship to Jesus; By God’s grace, we seek to become more like him in the way we think and feel and speak and act. Our focus is on the heart, and not primarily on external behavior. The heart is the source of all behavior. Heart transformation is fueled by God’s empowering grace, a gift that is never earned, so we come in a humble, dependent relationship to him.
Accountability: To encourage and help one another, we will go around the circle and ask each member about their experience during the past week.
Daily Prayer & Bible Reading – this week did I pray daily for my teammates by name? Did I thoughtfully & prayerfully read the weekly passage?
Work: – have I maintained integrity, done my work “as to the Lord” and honored my co-workers? My family?
Sexual Purity: – was I pure in my heart, thought life, eyes, body, and relationships with others? Am I learning to see others as image bearers of God, like my wife or daughter?
Conflict & Interpersonal Relationships – this week in conflict have I relied on God’s grace to speak the truth in love, and to respond with humility, not with ego or selfishness? To bless those that want to hurt me? Have I been easily offended? Have I gone to God with those feelings?
Idolatry: – this week, have I sought my highest satisfaction, meaning, and joy in God? Or have I been tempted to seek it in work or religious achievement, in money or possessions, in another person, in sex, comfort, food, control, in the approval of others, etc, etc.
Scripture Passage: I Cor. 3:21-23 “So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.”
Discussion question: Under grace, our future is secure, and we are now free to give hilariously, and to discover that generosity reflects the image of God, and makes us human. Where do you find it hard, and where do you find it easy to spend money? This reveals strong clues about my heart, and what it worships.
